„The return to Poetry is done through separation from women, who have their own path, like the great Bukowski. With dentures or long legs, they remain in verses, finally, immaterial. From now on, the path of solitude remains a logical choice, until other feminine appearances, which will not delay in appearing. Alina Hiristea organizes the scene according to the text, it's a perpetual close-up. The director knows how to use the springs of her art, because she has sensitivity and strength, but also the courage to fight with ossifying official gears. Her favorite subjects are different from the others on the market. Bukowski is just an example, but one to be bolded. Description
The show Bukowski by Night begins with a poetry performance that transforms into the show of the artist Art Legend (Karl Baker), assaulted by fans and their madness, captivated by Gloria, destroyed by a toxic relationship, saved and re-saved by Alice, against his will, as if, in a carousel of moods and changes of situation in the tragicomic register.
It's a fight with women, with the idea of women, with their mystery and unpredictability, in Bukowski's unique style.
Gloria (Gabriela Porumbacu) wants to be a total artist – she writes, paints, sings, dances. She conquers him, takes Art hostage in her world, and what will happen will dynamite his emotional lability, narcissism, ridicule, absurdity and sensuality, until the final outburst.
Next to the eccentric and disturbingly-disturbed Gloria, appears the woman-bandage, Alice (Delia Lazăr), the old friend who takes on the role of savior, a therapist who needs therapy, in turn, until madness breaks all barriers.
Art feeds on life, life feeds on art.
A show centered on the figure of the artist and art as a way of survival.
Caught between the two women, Art struggles to maintain his sanity and emotional integrity, and his writing gains in strength and expressiveness. Alcohol is, in this case, a harmless means of defense, an enhancer of the state of poetry.
A charismatic, fascinating character with a unique vibe, Art Legend wins everyone's hearts through his disarming sincerity, his frustrated humor, and the candor of an artist who has accumulated disappointments, understood what the world is like, and yet, does not capitulate, does not give up.
The audience is taken as a witness and judge, sometimes as an active participant in the surprising situations that follow one another in an overwhelming tumult, just like the Bukowski universe.
The show is produced by Teatrul Proxim, hosted by the Metropolitan Center for Education and Culture "Dalles" and realized with the support of UNITER.
