About the show:

Winner of the Tony Award in 2009 and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2010, "Next to Normal" is an American musical with lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. Considered one of the most mature musicals of recent decades, the show, which premiered on Broadway in 2008, is now also playing in Romania, with the national premiere of the Romanian version taking place in June 2020 on the stage of the National Operetta and Musical Theater "Ion Dacian".

With surreal touches, "Next to Normal" captures the emotional story of the Goodman family. The father is an architect, the mother rushes to prepare breakfast and lunches every morning, and their children are two temperamental teenagers. Beneath the appearance of a happy family, their lives are far from normal. The mother, Diana, has been struggling for 16 years with bipolar disorder, anxiety, and mood swings, which the other family members don't know how to relate to.

The show invites the audience to enter the minds and hearts of the protagonists, to understand and empathize with their sensitivities and shortcomings.

How much lucidity is needed to accept reality as it is? The musical "Next to Normal" does not offer answers, but only another perspective on how to look at things.
