LADY SHAKESPEARE – reading-performance
by Anca Vișdei
NATIONAL PREMIERE
Distribution: Olimpia Melinte, Vlad Udrescu
Direction: Daniele Salvo (IT)
What happens when behind the world's greatest playwright we discover a woman who knows him better than anyone?
"Lady Shakespeare", by Anca Visdei, is a story about William Shakespeare and his wife, Anne Hathaway, about love, marriage, jealousy, theatre, and mystery. Inspired by a mysterious intimate correspondence between the two, the play spans almost 25 years of their lives and reconstructs, with humor, tenderness, and irony, the fascinating world of Elizabethan theatre.
Premiered nationally in Romania, the text "Lady Shakespeare" brings together actors Olimpia Melinte and Vlad Udrescu on stage, in a truly scenic reading performance, built with a set and a theatrical atmosphere that brings the text to life before the audience.
The direction belongs to the Italian director Daniele Salvo, who conceived and created a meeting between contemporary productions and Shakespeare's universe, between the intimacy of correspondence and the magic of theatre.
The premiere takes place on August 23, in Buzău, within the COMIC 7 B International Independent Theatre Festival. A story about two people, a great mystery, and a love that has survived history.
A correspondence impossible to authenticate, but vivid enough to question Shakespeare's legend." This is, in fact, one of the stakes of the play: the author Anca Visdei intentionally juggles biographical truth and fiction, leaving the spectator to decide where the real document ends and the legend begins.
But, beyond the love story, the question remains: who is the man behind the Shakespeare legend, and how well do we actually know him, hundreds of years later?
