"Domestic Violence Beyond Fear"
The Metropolitan Centre for Education and Culture Ioan I.Dalles and Lotus Justice & Support Centre CIC U.K are organizing on **November 27, 2026 at 7:00 PM** the Event "Domestic Violence Beyond Fear".
The event takes place at Sala Dalles, Bvdul Nicolae Bălcescu nr 18.
CMEC Ioan I.Dalles is a public institution under the subordination of the Capital City Hall and the General Council.
Lotus Justice & Support Centre CIC, an organization supporting victims of domestic violence that operates exclusively online and serves Romanian-speaking communities in all administrative-territorial units of the United Kingdom.
The United Nations General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and marks the beginning of the international 16 Days of Activism campaign, which ends on December 10 (International Human Rights Day.)
The aim is to raise awareness, support victims, and mobilize governments and civil society to prevent and combat gender-based and domestic violence.
The official partners of the event are: The National Agency for Equal Opportunities (ANES), represented at the event by Ms. Monaliza Cîrstea, Director; The General Directorate of Social Assistance of Bucharest Municipality (DGASMB) represented by Ms. Cosmina Simiean, Director, and the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR) represented by Police Commissioner Alexandru LEUȚU – COTROCEANU.
The event's honored guests are His Excellency, the Ambassador of Great Britain to Romania, Mr. Giles Matthew Portman, and his wife, Ms. Lucie Portman. The British government has made an ambitious commitment to halve the number of domestic violence cases in the next decade, and international cooperation on this issue is part of these efforts.
The event will also feature speeches from Ms. Ana-Maria Almășan, representative of the Consulate General of Romania in London,
Alina Gorghiu, Member of Parliament, artist Diana Matei, psychologist Simion R.Stefan, Valentina Moise - family law lawyer, lawyer Geta Lupu, lawyer Daniela Tebeșoi, and survivors of domestic violence.
In 2025, there were 66 cases of femicide and 31 cases by October 15, 2026.
The event "Domestic Violence Beyond Fear" aims to bring together the relevant institutions of the Romanian state, associations, civil society, public figures, and survivors of domestic violence.
The event is structured into two panels. The first is led by Ani Crețu, director of CMEC Ioan I.Dalles, and the second by Otilia Mutu, initiator and CEO of Lotus Justice & Support Centre CIC UK.
Otilia Mutu is the initiator and CEO of Lotus Justice & Support Centre CIC, an organization in Great Britain dedicated to Romanian-speaking women experiencing domestic abuse. Lotus operates entirely online and supports women from all over Great Britain, regardless of the city they live in.
Born and raised in Bucharest, Otilia has lived in Great Britain for ten years, where she studied and worked. She is a qualified Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA), a member of NALP, and has passed all modules of the Level 7 Diploma in Paralegal Practice with distinction in civil litigation. She volunteers with a law firm in London and holds the role of VAWG Champion in Lambeth, where she is involved in combating violence against women and girls.
She is the author of the book „Dincolo de frică” (Beyond Fear) (2025) and host of the podcast of the same name, where she gives voice to stories that are usually untold. Otilia also contributed to the first memorial of the Roma Holocaust in Great Britain, erected in Newcastle, on whose plaque her name is inscribed.
Behind closed doors, lives are hidden. We are the voice of those who cannot speak!
Home should mean safety, respect, and support. However, for thousands of people, the reality behind closed doors is dominated by fear, control, and abuse. Domestic violence does not discriminate and does not consider age, education, or social status. It destroys lives, breaks up families, and leaves deep, often invisible, scars.
It is essential to understand that abuse is not just physical aggression. Domestic violence has many other equally dangerous faces: psychological and verbal violence, economic violence, cyber violence.
No one should live in fear. There are laws that protect, there are safe shelters, and there is a way out to a dignified and peaceful life.
The event is free of charge upon reservation.
